Whitsunday Coast Airport at Proserpine services Airlie Beach and the surrounding Whitsunday area.  The airport is 33km or around 30 min buy taxi or shuttle service to Airlie Beach.  Whitsunday Camper Hire is located approximately 13km from Airlie Beach.

Airlie Beach is the hub for accomodation and boat trips to the Barrier Reef and surrounding islands.  One of the main accommodation venues is the Airlie Beach Hotel with its three restaurants and off street parking.

Adjacent to Airlie Beach is a busy marina which the island boats utilize, whilst there is another marina under construction on the Shute Harbour side of Airlie Beach containing residential and tourist units which will contribute to the accommodation capacity of the coast.

Some of the island traffic demand is carried by the Shute Harbour Ferry Terminal which is a further 10km east of Airlie Beach.

The dormitory suburbs of Airlie Beach are Cannonvale on the approach and Jubilee Pocket on the other side of Airlie en route to Shute Harbour.

Horseshoe Bay

Horseshoe Bay is one of Bowen's eight beaches with sheltered swimming, soft coral viewing for snorkelers just off the beach and distinctive pink granite boulder strewn shore line. Camping is available just adjacent to this beach. The surrounds are full of lovely scenery, coastal walks and lookouts. This is a great fish and chip town!

Cape Hillsborough National Park

Beautiful Cape Hillsborough National Park is located 1 1/2 hours south of Airlie Beach. Situated in the national park is a beachfront camping park with a swimming pool. The park has diverse natural bush scenery. In the National Park you will find lookouts, bushwalking tracks and beach walks.

Mackay Marina

2 hours south of Airlie Beach, at Mackay Marina you can spend a lazy afternoon wandering along the boardwalks, inspecting the boats at their moorings or enjoy lunch at one of the popular waterfront restaurants.

Grays Bay, Bowen

Where the serene Coral Sea laps at the shore of the bay.

Ravenswood Mine

About 3 hours from Airlie visit the huge open cut gold mine from the viewing platform.

Ravenswood Railway Hotel

Have a meal and a beer at the historic Railway Hotel. In days gone by, Ravenswood even had a train into town.

Steam Engine

Visit the old steam engine that once powered the gold stamper.

Burdekin Dam

Burdekin Dam contains 7 times more water than Sydney Harbour and is around 4 hours from Airlie Beach via Ravenswood.

Mining Museum

Take a look at the interesting mining museum.

Charters Towers

Charters Towers is 3 hours from Airlie Beach and was once a huge gold mining town. Historic buildings are still in use. Its like stepping back into the past.
